Starting February 1st, 2001, Algorithmic Solutions Software GmbH (AS) became the sole distributor of LEDA. AS takes over the responsibility for maintaining and developing LEDA. It is no longer feasible for the research groups of Stefan Naeher and Kurt Mehlhorn to maintain LEDA at the standard that it has reached and that our users deserve. This does not mean that we have lost interest in LEDA. On the contrary our groups will continue to contribute core functionality, extension packages and friend packages.

We feel that it is natural to hand over the full responsibility for LEDA to AS at this point of time.

• Maintenance of LEDA for a wide variety of platforms and compilers binds too much manpower in our research groups.
• Key persons of the LEDA project have left our research groups and have moved to AS. So the expertise for maintaining and developing LEDA is now at AS.
• AS will add functionality that will make LEDA even more useful, but is of limited scientific interest.
• AS will improve the support even further.
• Kurt and Stefan's group have started new projects. Several of them are based on LEDA and will hopefully lead to equally useful packages.
