Structure

Since it opened in December 1990 five departments have been installed to fit the research programme. The

D1: Algorithms and Complexity is headed by Prof. Dr. Kurt Mehlhorn, and the
D2: Programming Logics was headed by Prof. Dr. Harald Ganzinger († June 3, 2004). The current acting director is Prof. Dr. Thomas Lengauer, acting scientific director is Prof. Dr. Andreas Podelski.
D3: Computational Biology and Applied Algorithmics is headed by Prof. Dr. Dr. Thomas Lengauer
D4: Computer Graphics is headed by Prof. Dr. Hans-Peter Seidel
D5: Databases and Information Systems is headed by Prof. Dr. Gerhard Weikum

Since September 2005 a new research group has been established:

Research Group 1: Automation of Logic is headed by Prof. Dr. Christoph Weidenbach

Since January 2002 two independent research groups have been established:

IRG2: Discrete Optimization Group headed by Dr. Friedrich Eisenbrand
IRG3: Graphics - Optics - Vision Group, headed by Dr. Marcus Magnor

The scientific staff presently consists of about 80 research associates, doctorate students, and postdocs, and is complemented by an administrative unit, by a computer support group and by our library.
