Precomputed Radiance Transfer

Jan Kautz, Peter-Pike Sloan, John Snyder.

Precomputed Radiance Transfer allows interactive rendering of objects illuminated by low-frequency environment maps, including self-shadowing and interreflections. The expensive integration of incident lighting is partially precomputed and stored as matrices. Both the lighting as well as the transfer functions are represented in the spherical harmonics basis. This reduces the expensive integration to simple and fast matrix-vector multiplications.
