The Global Illumination using the Photon Mapping

Takehiro Tawara,

The top image is rendered using the "Photon Mapping" technique. It represents many important lighting transports which are difficult without a correct simulation of the global illumination. This scene is challenging because the only light source is in the next room and the most part of the front room is illuminated indirectly. For the reason of correctness and efficiency, the image is separated into several components shown in the bottom images: from the left to right, the direct illumination, indirect illumination, specular and caustic illumination.
