Submission Guidelines

Requirements

Three to five minutes is ideal for most animations and presentations of applications; eight minutes is the upper limit. Standard VHS videotape is allowed, but electronic formats are encouraged (QuickTime, MPEG, .avi, .mov, or RealPlayer). We allow submission of Macromedia Flash, MS PowerPoint animations, Java applets, and limited forms of other multimedia. These formats must have a 'demo mode' that requires no interaction after e.g. pressing a 'demo' button. In case of doubt, please email the Video and Multimedia Program chair.

The Call for Submissions in 2003 gives useful tips for preparing a video or multimedia presentation, even though we do not produce a DVD or video tape this year.

Submission Process

Electronic submission: To submit large files electronically, do not send them in email. Instead, place the files(s) on a WWW or FTP server and include the URL(s) in your submission.

Please attach your 1- or 2-page video description, in (compressed) PostScript or PDF format, to the email. If you cannot use attachments, either include PostScript in the email body, or preferably send an URL. In addition, your email cover letter should state the following:

  1. Video title:
  2. Authors:
  3. For the contact author:
      - Postal address:
      - Email (if not equivalent to the From email header):
      - Phone:
      - FAX:
  4. Information about how to access the files, URL(s):
  5. Any specific instructions for displaying/running your files:
  6. Specification of video/audio formats (size) and codecs used:
  7. Duration:

Send your email to the video and multimedia presentations program chair kettner@mpi-sb.mpg.de, no later than March 1, 2005, and include "SoCG05 video submission" in your subject line (having SoCG05 in your subject lines of subsequent emails will prevent your emails from being eliminated from the spam filter). You will receive an immediate automatic confirmation message. Once we have retrieved and successfully played your submission you will receive another confirmation for your submission.

Physical submission: As an alternative, above cover letter, descriptions and videos on VHS videotape, in either NTSC or PAL format, can be sent to the video and multimedia presentations program chair, to arrive by March 1, 2005. To help the organization, an electronic submission of the cover letter is appreciated.
