A Classification Scheme of 3D Interaction Techniques. Lutz Kettner. Technical report B 95-05, Institute for Computer Science, Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, Freie Universität Berlin, Germany. 1995.

Abstract

A classification scheme for 3d interaction techniques is described. It is based on examples found in the literature, which we review here shortly. The feature space of the scheme has been proven useful in analysing particular aspects of the behavior and in deriving new interaction techniques. Several techniques for the rotation task are analyzed using Fitts' law to predict interaction performance. The classification scheme specializes on 2D input devices, but several results are easily generalizable to higher dimensional devices.
