This is an evaluation study of image processing applications on the eXtreme Processing Platform (XPP) from PACT. The XPP consists of an array of ALU and RAM elements which processes data streams flowing through dedicated IO elements from external memory. The fast dynamic and differential reconfigurability of each of the elements allows very high computational efficiency resulting in small silicon area and low power consumption. To estimate the performance for image processing different multi-dimensional filters have been implemented and tested on a clock accurate chip simulator. A section of my PhD thesis describes the implementation of the non-linear diffusion PDE on the XPP from these building blocks. While the evaluation was performed on the chip simulator, meanwhile PACT offers a hardware development board with the XPP, SRAM memory and a micro-controller.
