Program

During ADFOCS, we have a poster session. Posters may be on topics other than machine learning. 

On August 10 (Monday) to August 13 (Thursday) at 13:45-14:00, members of our Algorithms and Complexity Group at MPI-INF will introduce the group by presenting their work. This year, we will feature the following speakers from our institute:

• Kurt Mehlhorn: Who Gets What? Fair Division of Indivisible Goods
• Anouk Duyster: Random Access in Grammar-Compressed Strings: Optimal Trade-Offs in Almost All Parameter Regimes
• Marek Sokolowski: Fast decremental tree sums in forests
• Simon Döring: Wait, Have We Seen this Graph Before?

A light breakfast (e.g., coffee and pastries) will be provided each morning before the first lecture. Come early and meet the other ADFOCS participants!

Lunch will be at the Mensa (cafeteria). The menu is here. 

The registration fee includes lunch coupons, which can used for any option except for those at Mensacafe. To see the menu in English, select a date on the left, and then click on the gear next to date. In the box that appears, at the bottom there is a dropdown for language with the word "Sprache". Choose English.

Snacks will be also provided during the mid-morning and mid-afternoon breaks.

Afternoon activities give opportunities for socializing and discussing the lectures. The activities include sessions for posters, exercises, and excursions. 

Weather permitting, we will have two short walking excursions to the Wildpark, a nearby wildlife park, and the Schwarzenbergturm, a nearby tower. Please wear comfortable walking and hiking clothing. We will also have a longer excursion for exploring Saarbrücken in small groups. 

Exercise sessions will run in parallel with these excursions. 

On Wednesday, August 12, we will meet at the Ulanen-Pavillon Biergarten for the partial (~90%) solar eclipse. Please note that it is not safe to directly view the partial solar eclipse. See this link for more details. 

Other days, we will informally gather at the St. Johanner Markt. Please wear your lanyards so that others can find you. 

In the St. Johanner Markt area, there are many restaurants and bars. On Thursday nights, Old Murphy's has karaoke.
